Volkswagen Buggy Up! Concept

Volkswagen Buggy Up! Concept

Volkswagen presented the Buggy Up! concept car at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. Based on the new Up! city car it’s a new take on the beach buggies that emerged in California during the ’60s. It sports a completely waterproof interior, neoprene covered seats, an iPod-powered infotainment system, 18-inch alloy wheels and a lightweight construction with extensive body reinforcements. To compensate the lack of roof and doors there’s a roll bar behind the two seats.

Oh, and since it’s a proper beach vehicle it sports specially designed floor drains to get rid of water.

There’s no word on wether this car will actually make it to production, but I sure hope so.

Art. Lebedev Navigarius GPS Device

Art. Lebedev Navigarius GPS Device Concept

Russian Art. Lebedev Studio (you know, the company behind the Optimus Maximus and Optimus Tactus keyboards, speakers shaped as speaker icons and so on) returns with another impressive concept; the Navigarius GPS Device. It doesn’t promise features not available in other windshield mounted GPS devices, but it is round and that’s enough for me, I want it.

As far as I can tell there’s no word on when (or even if) this thing will go into production, but let’s hope it does soon.

NES Controller Mouse

Oh man, too bad this is just a concept – I’d buy this NES controller mouse any day, I don’t care if it’s even less ergonomic than the old Amiga 500 mice (or the early Apple ones, for that matter). No word on who the mastermind behind it is but he deserves to see this beauty mass produced.

The No-Key Keyboard Is All Glass

The No-Key Glass Keyboard by Kong Fanwen

Considering how appealing glass touch-screen interfaces are these days (think iPhone) there ought to be a market for the No-Key Keyboard, a completely non-tactile keyboard concept designed by Kong Fanwen. The idea behind this is that a built-in camera uses motion capture to record the keystrokes instead of by you actually pushing the buttons.

I wonder how my fingertips would feel after a long days hammering on solid glass though…

The Rechargeable USB Lighter

Kool Rechargeable Flameless Lighter with USB Flash memory

Here’s the Rechargeable USB Lighter, designed by Nathan Gabriele. It might look like a regular Zippo at the first glance, but flip this “premium giveaway” open and you’ll find that it is flameless and works by resistance coils – like a car lighter. Whenever the juice runs out you just plug it in a free USB port to recharge it.

Oh, and to top it off there’s USB flash storage in it as well.
