Natural Wave Radiator Heater

Natural Wave by Byung-seok You

If you’re lucky enough to live in an apartment with really wide, old-school radiators you should check out Byung-seok You’s Natural Wave. A porcelain tray that sits on the top of your radiator and uses its heat to keep your tea/coffee/brownies/biscuits and cookies warm. How about that. Beats those crappy USB-powered heaters any day.

The LampLamp

Here’s the Lamp Lamp by Tokyo-based 100%. It’s a 30 Watt E26/E27 bulb with an extra decoy base blown on it, fitting pretty much all sockets.

Got to get myself a couple of these and get rid of unnecessary lamp shades.

Nokia 8800 Arte / Sapphire Arte

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007
Nokia 8800 Arte Sapphire

Here’s 8800 Arte and 8800 Sapphire Arte, two new 3G designer phones from Nokia. The brown/coffee Sapphire Arte sports a sapphire navigation button and fine leather details from East India and the slightly cheaper Nokia 8800 Arte is all black. Both models feature a soundtrack by Kruder & Dorfmeister, graphical visualizations by Fritz Fitzke, OLED-displays, a 3.2 megapixel camera, micro-USB and an odd feature; knock twice on them lightly to light up the display and clock.

Nokia 8800 Arte will be available for purchase during Q4 2007 (est. price 1000 Euro) while the 8800 Sapphire Arte will be launched in Q1 2008 for about 1150 Euro.

Nissan develops color changing paint

Nissan Develops Color Changing Chameleon Paint

Well well, we might not have commuter jet packs yet but the future does seem to close in; Nissan is developing a “paramagnetic iron oxide paint polymer” which can alter the color of the car paint by the press of a button by using an electrical charge (remember the receptionist’s nail polish in “Total Recall”?).

The downside to this is that because the magic paint needs electric current it’ll only be active when the car is running, meaning the car will turn white when you park it and turn off the engine.

Apparently Nissan expects models with this James Bond-ish feature to launch sometime during 2010.

The Touch-sensitive DeLighTable by Kloss

Here’s the DeLighTable by Kloss, a coffee table sporting a surface that emits light when touched. This touch-sensitive and light-emitting technology has been around for a while now but now they’ve finally managed to slim it down (the coffee table is only 25mm thick) and make it available for purchase. It’s completely waterproof and runs on a safe 12 volts.

The price is 1200GBP (about $2,300).

Vestal Emery Watch

Vestal Emery Watch

Vestal continues to amaze me with their oversized watches, here’s Emery, heavily influenced by radios from the ‘60:ies. There’s not much to talk about when it comes to bells and whistles (leather strap, stainless steel, 5atm water resistance), but a press on the button lights up the display and negative index.

Light-emitting Wallpaper

Light-emitting wallpaper by Jonas Samson

I don’t know if this is a mere concept or available for purchase, but neat idea nevertheless: the Hi-tech Light-emitting Wallpaper by Jonas Samson. As long as the wallpaper is turned off the pattern is invisible, when turned on it becomes animated and glows right through it.

Size: 240 cm x 360 cm.

Illusion Wine Glasses

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007
Illusion of Thirst Wine Glasses

The Illusion Wine Glasses combines the looks of a delicate wine glass and the comfort of a milk glass. A glass inside the glass, so to say.

“Combining inventive design with delightful execution, the wine goblet fills entirely with liquid and seems to float within the surrounding glass, which remains empty.”

UncommonGoods: Illusion Wine Glasses (4 glasses, $75.00)
