Nixon The Trooper 3 Button Headphones

Here’s The Trooper 3 Button, a pair of really good looking headphones by Nixon, makers of awesome watches – among other things. The 3 button model comes with a mic and volume buttons, but there’s a cheaper model without them as well. It doesn’t really show on the pictures, but there’s a big ring on the side of one of the earpieces you can turn to adjust the volume. The band is foldable for easy storage as well.

Another feature worth mentioning is the fact that you can disconnect the cord from the earpiece, so if it would break you can always exchange it, or just be able to store it more safely in a bag.

The Trooper 3 Button is available in white and matte black and you can find it for about $50 on Amazon ($60 on Nixon’s site)

Nooka Zub Zayu Watch

Nooka just revealed the latest addition to their line of original timepieces, the Zub Zayu, featuring the largest display of the Zub models. “Sayu” is Japanese for “left and right” and this assymetrical watch can be worn on both left and right wrists. As with similar Nooka watches you read the time by counting the dots for the hours while the vertical bars shows minutes and seconds.

The Zub Zayu is available in four different colors: black, gray, yellow, purple/magenta and blue and besides regular time and date it has alarm, chronograph as well as a sleepmode to help conserve battery.

Incase Origami iPad Stand Sleeve

The Origami Stand Sleeve by Incase is inpired by the ancient Japanese paper-folding art and while it offers the protection you’d expect from a neoprene sleeve it sports a neater feature as well; it can quickly be folded into a stand, allowing both horizontal and vertical viewing positions. It’s available in both black and pink models, both with plush faux-fur interiors.

Frends Headphones

Frends Headphones

Tired of wearing the same white earbuds as everyone else? Frends, a group of friends that started out as a snowboard crew that expanded to a company, has launched a collection of headphones with a whole lot more unique style to them, dubbed the Classic, Alli, Coupe and Clip. It’s not all the available colors shown below so head over to their website to check them all out. Besides the colors I’m a big fan of the fabric cord to alleviate tangle, small detail that makes a difference.

There’s no word on pricing yet though.

Syke Crew Skateboard Decks

I love these original skateboard decks dubbed Death from outer space by Australian Syke Crew and Gedemin Peel. Would hurt a little to boardslide those graphics away.

No word on pricing, but keep an eye on Syke Store and they might just pop up there if you’re interested.

Harman Kardon SoundSticks III

When Harman Kardon launched SoundSticks II it became a permanent part of MoMA’s collection in New York, now it’s updated to version 3 (III) and while this 2.1 sound system still feature 40 watts (20 watt sub woofer and 10 in each speaker) it now comes with a white LED light and black feet to match the new iMac better. It was launched in Japan earlier this year but now finally available in the states.

Other than the fancy looks you get a speaker system with 3.5mm stereo jack input (so it’s suitable for most mp3 players and computers), touch controls for volume and mute, a six inch down-firing subwoofer and four transducers in each speaker.

Review: i-Mego Retro Headphones

i-Mego Retro Headphones Classic

Freshpilot reviews: I’m a big fan of retro headphones and i-Mego goes way back with the Retro Headphones, resembling the old Shure microphones Elvis used back in the 50′s. Now, before i-Mego sent me a pair to review I’ve got to admit I thought they’d might be more style over substance, but I changed my mind as soon as I unboxed them and felt the weight of them. No flimsy plastic here.

The Retro headphones are i-Mego’s range-topping line (sold for about $70) currently consisting of two models: Classic (chrome/white) mainly meant for human, vocal, new age and classical music and Heavy Beats (brown/gun metal) meant for R&B, Hip hop and rock.

I’ve compared the Classic model to my pair of Sennheiser HD 205′s and PX-100′s and considering the product description I thought the Classic might risk being a bit too weak on the bass for my music taste, but they handled well. Well indeed. I haven’t been able to compare the Classic to the brown Heavy Beats model, but style matters here at Freshpilot, and I’m enjoying some fine Groove Armada and Mumford & Sons bass in them as I write this.

It wasn’t much of a surprise to find that they treated spoken word and jazz well, but I was glad to hear that they continued to deal well with pretty much anything I threw at them, ranging from modern rock to folk to metal, drum&bass, 8-bit retro bitpop and a whole lot of skate punk. I’ve got an unholy playlist for these things.

On the tech side you get two high performance 40mm drivers with 20Hz-20kHz frequency response, 32ohms impedance and 106±5db sensitivity. The top of the 3.5mm jack is encased in metal and the cable is pretty short (about 1m), which I’m all for. Besides the chromed metal you get a whole lot of padded white faux leather, softening it up.

Verdict:
I’d be happy to use the Retro Classics as my standard at-home headphones. I’m saying “At-home” since while the design is excellent these phones might be a bit too much for me to pull off in public. But they look good, real good. Stylish enough not to be hidden when you’re not using them. I’m no audiophile by any means, but the sound suits me with its warmth, allowing enough bass while I don’t feel like I’m losing anything in the higher frequencies. I’ve got a pretty big head (my Sennheiser HD 205′s felt really tight when I got them) and these fit great right from the start. Not too tight, not too loose.

Shortly put, it’s a well-built pair of headphones that sure stands out from the crowd, I’d buy ‘em.
