LG KS20: Very iPhone indeed

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007
LG KS20

Here’s LG KS20, a slim and stylish 3G smartphone that pretty much looks like LG’s answer to the iPhone. It’s powered by Windows Mobile 6 and among the features we find a full-front 2.8" QVGA touchscreen, 3.6 Mbps HSDPA, EDGE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a full Web browser, natural handwriting recognition, a 2 megapixel camera with 2x digital zoom (along with a low-res camera on the front for video calls), FM-radio and MicroSD-based storage.

I don’t know how Windows Mobile 6 measures up against iPhone’s Mac OS X but being a long-time fan of LG phones I sure wouldn’t mind giving this one a try (hey LG, send one over!).

The release date is set to Monday 12 November 2007 in all major European markets.

Buy a Pink Zune, fight breastcancer

Friday, October 19th, 2007
Pink Zune against breastcancer

To help fight breastcancer Microsoft and Ford offers a Warriors in Pink Special Edition 30GB Zune of which 100% of the purchase price goes to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. That’s right, all of it.

$250 is still more expensive than a regular Zune, but considering the cause it’s quite impressive.

(If you’re more into Apple and iPods there’s always the red special edition models where a portion of the purchase price goes to help fight AIDS in Africa)

Video of the Zune 2 interface

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

Here’s a video of Microsoft’s new Zune 2 in action and I must admit that the touch/click-combo interface is pretty impressing. Not a touchscreen, but in return your display stays nice and clean.

The Zune 2 Flash family

Here’s Microsoft’s newest addition to the Zune family, the Zune 2 and the Zune Flash. The black Zune 2 is slightly larger than an iPod classic and sports 80GB of storage (with a 3.2" screen and Zune Premium headphones), the Zune Flash are available with 4GB and 8GB of storage and in four colors (pink, green, black and glossy red). All featuring wireless sync, updated sharing functions, new touch controls and a built-in FM tuner.

Not only that, Microsoft is offering all the new Zune 2 features to those who own a 1st gen Zune through a firmware update. How about that? It won’t even cripple it in the process.

Microsoft Mobile Memory Mouse 8000

Microsoft’s Mobile Memory Mouse 8000 is a Bluetooth powered laptop mouse with a USB transciever that doubles as a 1GB Flash drive (and charger). Whenever the green LED low-power-indicator lights up you just need attach the magnetic connector to the mouse and the tip of the transciever (Apple style) and it’ll recharge the batteries. Smart indeed.

Download Safari for Windows

Safari Windows

Steve Jobs just announced that the public beta of Safari 3 is available as a free download, but the real kicker is of course that it’s available for Windows now as well. The old Mac / Windows barriers just keep on falling apart, don’t they?

The Windows version looks just like the Mac version and (according to Apple) it’s two times faster than Internet Explorer and 1.6 times faster than Firefox - but before you get your hopes up you should bear in mind that this release is rightfully marked beta, there’s plenty of reports of websites rendering poorly in it still.

(There’s a demo video available for those still not believing.)

Microsoft Surface: Impressive drag & drop interface

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

It seems like Microsoft has gotten themselves involved with the Jeff Han, the surface computing guru behind the quite impressive and revolutionary multi-touch drag & drop interface which makes Minority Report-style computing a reality. Microsoft calls it Microsoft Surface (previously known as Project Milan).

Popular Mechanics got Microsoft to demonstrate Surface for them so grab a new cup of coffee, sit back and enjoy the video below:
