The people over at Mimoco just sent me three Mimobots to pass on to you readers. Now, these are the 1GB models (there’s 8GB models available now) but if you’re like me and 1) value appearance over storage capacity (well… sometimes) and 2) like free stuff in general then keep on reading.

The models I’ve got are Galacula, Pirate Nero (by tokidoki) and Ptry and they all come equipped with plush ZipperBack ProtoHoodies for protection.

Write me a comment and tell me why you should get one and I’ll pick three suitable winners to adopt them by July 19th.

UPDATE:

Since I’ve come to the sad decision of putting Freshpilot on ice I’m picking out three winners two days in advance. Here’s the lucky winners:

Pirate Nero:
“I desperately need a new flash drive to keep offline copies of Freshpilot to read while commuting! :)”
–Nitzer

Galacula:
“Because i waited for you, day after day while you where gone(china?)eager for some news and update and now when you’re here i think i deserve a free mimobot in addition to that i’m in desperate need for flash drive.”
–Behrem

Ptry:
“Don’t give it to me, I’ll never use it but admire it’s beauty ;-) Btw, I think I’am your most persistent commentator *hint hint*”
–Mathias

I’ll contact you guys by e-mail right away, congrats!

As most of you who read Freshpilot ought to have noticed by now I haven’t had the time to write as much as I used to. Part is due to heavier work load at my day job and part is due to me going on a trip abroad. I’ll be spending about 3,5 months in Asia as of now – seeing everything from Tibet to Tokyo (Akihabara!) and Beijing to Mumbai.

Thanks for reading Freshpilot so far, and I really hope you come back sometime near midst of May when I get back.

Cheers,

Drew Curtis, the man behind Fark.com, has published Fark in book form, calling it It’s Not News, It’s Fark: How Mass Media Tries To Pass Off Crap As News:

“The editorial principle behind Curtis’s Web Site Fark.com is remarkably simple: readers submit news stories with their own wacky headlines, inviting snarky commentary from other readers. Here, he steps back to examine why “Mass Media” keeps churning out the sort of inane stories that are “supposed to look like news” that make the site so wildly popular. The critique is familiar—see Barry Glassner’s The Culture of Fear, among others—but Curtis delivers it with richly sarcastic humor.”

(There was some alarm about Drew Curtis changing the Fark comments copyright to himself a while ago, this might just be why)

News aggregators has been done numerous times before but.. who cares. Let me introduce you to Freshpilot News, a new (and quite useful) subsection of Freshpilot.

Basically it helps you stay up to date with the current web buzz by scanning a large number of popular and useful websites ranging from user-submitted news sites (like Digg, Reddit, Shoutwire, del.icio.us) to respected blogs (like Engadget, Gizmodo, Uncrate), more visually stimulating sites (like Flickr, Youtube) and design resources (Styleboost, Web Creme, Computer love, Logopond).

All this content is then divided into three main sections: News & Buzz, Technology & Gadgets and Design, Style & Inspiration, the latter focusing mainly on web design.

Enjoy!
