Hymini: Wind & Solar Charger

Monday, October 15th, 2007
miniWIZ Hymini Solar and Wind Charger

This is Hymini by miniWIZ and it’s a handheld charger for portable electronic devices. Either put it in sunlight and let it gather solar energy or let the wind spin its fan to generate precious juice for your 5V-craving gadgets (iPods, MP3 players, digital cameras, cell phones, you name it).

If you need to speed up the process and use it as a spare battery you can quick charge it by plugging it into an outlet or an USB port as well.

The Hymini will be available sometime during fall 2007 (in white and black) and the estimated price is about $50.

MusiCAN USB Powered Speakers

According to COAGENT Ltd they’ve worked closely with Sennheiser over the years, something that might vouch for decent sound quality coming out of the small MusiCAN Speakers. Besides looking stylish these 1W+1W desktop speakers are stackable and completely USB 2.0-powered. No external power source required.

Whenever it’s time to go you just stack the speakers and hide the USB cable inside, easy as that.

Domo-kun Mimoco USB Flash Drives

While many of us in the West probably think of the “Everytime you masturbate God kills a kitten” pic when we see the brown, furry Domo-kun he’s actually the long-time mascot of the Japanese tv-channel NHK.

Mimoco (of Star Wars thumb drive fame, among other things) will launch a collection of Domo-kun Flash drives to celebrate the upcoming Domo-kun show on Nicktoons Network.

The Flash drives will cost between $50 and $110 depending on storage (1 to 4GB) and will be available in November.

USB-powered UV Greenhouse

USB UV Greenhouse

If you’re gifted with a pair of green thumbs and a free USB port this USB-powered mini greenhouse might be interesting. It’ll keep the growing plants illuminated as long as your computer is on (with ultra violet growth light as well) and it ships with software that monitors everything for you, making sure you water it when needed.

Microsoft Mobile Memory Mouse 8000

Microsoft’s Mobile Memory Mouse 8000 is a Bluetooth powered laptop mouse with a USB transciever that doubles as a 1GB Flash drive (and charger). Whenever the green LED low-power-indicator lights up you just need attach the magnetic connector to the mouse and the tip of the transciever (Apple style) and it’ll recharge the batteries. Smart indeed.

LaCie Golden Disk External Drive

LaCie has teamed up with the French designer Ora-ïto (Ito Morabito) once again and this time they’ve come up with a shiny-shiny, golden and external USB 2.0 drive with 500GB of storage looking somewhat like a semi-melted block of solid gold.

The Golden Disks will start shipping in October and are available for pre-order now.

The Cassette Tape MP3 Player

Cassette Tape MP3 Player

This is the Cassette Tape MP3 Player and while some people (like me) might just chuckle a little and appreciate its nostalgic shape it actually doubles as a cassette tape, meaning besides plugging your earphones in it and use it as a portable MP3 player you can load it with music (via USB, which also charges it) and use it in any ‘ol cassette tape player.

There’s no internal memory but it features a built-in SD card slot, so the storage space depends on your wallet.

Marantz CR201 Personal CD System

Marantz CR201 Personal CD System

Here’s Marantz new CD setup, the CR201 Personal CD System. This stylish one-piece system promises excellent sound quality through its built-in speaker system (with intelligent 3D sound technology) while sporting a mirror LED front panel, a side-sliding CD door, ambient blue LED lights a USB port for external devices.

The remote control is in all Japanese though, but probably easy enough to learn through trial-and-error to make up for the good looks of this thing.
